While 2018 saw a lot of new launches and facelifts in the automotive industry, 2019 is set to be even bigger. Interestingly, 2019 is being predicted to be the ‘Year of SUVs’.

Almost 15 utility vehicles are all set to be introduced this year, so if you are an SUV lover and did not buy one, 2019 will be a bonanza year for you.

Some New Faces

There are a few completely new entrants to the market like Kia Motors from Korea and MG Motors from China. Both are set to enter the Indian market in the first half of the year.

Kia will open its innings in India with the SP2I based on its SP concept that was showcased last year. It’s planning to launch another SUV post the SP2I, but the automaker is yet to make any formal announcements.

MG is also all set to launch the Hector, a premium SUV in the first half of 2019. The Hector will be re-engineered to suit the Indian market’s tastes and the road conditions, so expect to be wowed by what the company calls ‘a new benchmark in the segment’!

And a lot of Old Ones

Tata Motors is launching its premium SUV Harrier this month while M&M will launch a facelift of XUV 300 early next month. January will also see Nissan launching its compact SUV Kicks, which was unveiled in India late last year and generated a lot of interest. Hyundai is also gearing up to launch a new electric SUV and a subcompact SUV. It will also be launching a facelift of the Tucson. The tried and tested Maruti Suzuki, not to be left behind, is launching a new model as well.

Renault will be introducing a premium SUV and a budget MPV this year. Toyota is also said to be getting an SUV ready for the second half of the year. Mercedes Benz will be introducing the new generation GLE while BMW and Audi will be introducing facelifts of almost all of their SUVs.

With more than 15 SUVs to choose from, the Indian car buyers will be spoilt for choice this year. And auto enthusiasts across the nation are waiting with bated breath to see who will capture the hearts and minds of the Indian car buyers!
