Home-grown car manufacturer Tata Motors is all set to take a leap into compact SUV segment with its all new Nexon, speculated to hit the showroom in October this year. To stand out from the clutter, Tata has designed the car with several convenience functions, comfort features and high-end safety options. The design philosophy on Nexon is obviously different when compared to others Tata cars that have been launched in the past years.
Tata seems to be tired of using the same old diesel engine technology, so their engineers have developed a new 1.5 liter heart for the Nexon, known as Revotorq diesel engine. Though it’s a scaled up version of 1.5 liter engine used in Tiago, it is more powerful and nimbler than the former. The petrol variant is equipped with a 1.2 liter engine churning 170Nm of torque and 110hp. 6 speed Manual gear set-up will be standard in both the variants. 6 speed and 5 speed automatic variants will be joining the row in the near future. Like other full-sized SUVs, Nexon will offer multiple drive modes.
A Glimpse of the Interior
While the dashboard follows a simple body color accent, you will see a 6.5-inch HD touch screen system on it, making it look like Merc sedan dashboards. The car is said to come outfitted with new information cluster, climate control, voice assist, rear AC vents as optional and speakers by Harman Kardon in top variants. The infotainment system will run programs like Android Auto and Apple Car Play as standard. Storage spaces are easily accessible, especially near the transmission, which Tata calls a Grand Central Console. Premium upholstery will be provided on the doors and steering wheel to give it a premium and chic look.
Looks wise Nexon is quite different from any other compact SUVs that we have seen in the Indian market. With coupe-like roofline and muscular stance at the sides, Nexon has interesting styling details. The front of the car is sleek with hexagonal grilles and a horizontal strip that goes over the headlamp housing. The dual tone fuselage looks trendy and a ceramic accent follows all the way to head lamps, fog lamps and tail lamps. With a small rear windscreen, Nexon has space to focus on the aesthetics – including a diamond shaped tail-lamp and higher rear bumper. As far as appearance goes, this one is much more attractive than its competitors.

With Tata Motors flouting the Nexon as a car with many first-in-the-segment features, we are eager to see how it will fare in the market and the effect it’s going to have on this aspirational segment!
