If you have been looking to upgrade to an SUV this year, there is good news for you. The market has been flooded with new launches and newer versions of older models. While we have spoken about quite a few SUVs in the past, this time we take on two segment leaders who are worthy rivals. The Ford Ecosport S, a favorite of most urban Indians, faces stiff competition from Tata Nexon XZ+.
The Beast Within
The 6-speed Ford EcoSport S is powered by a 125 PS, 3 inline cylinder engine, translating to a maximum torque of 170 Nm at 1500 – 4500 rpm. In terms of fuel efficiency, this 999 cc SUV has an impressive 18. Km per liter track record. Furthermore, the Ford EcoSport comes in two modes, the D mode for driving in the traffic-laden city and the S mode with hill assist for those long drives.
On the other hand, the Tata Nexon XZ+ offers an impressive 110 PS through its 1198 cc, 3 cylinder engine with a torque of 170 Nm at 1750 – 4000 rpm. Furthermore, this 6-speed SUV comes with three selectable driving modes viz. Eco, City, and Sport to suit your mood and terrain.
Both, the Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon come with sunroofs, body colored door handles and mirrors, fog lamps and day-time driving lights. However, what sets them apart is the presentation. The Ford EcoSport has hexagonal HID headlamps, fog lamp bezels painted black for aesthetics and front grille with a high black gloss finish. On the other hand, the Tata Nexon comes with a feline eye shaped day-time driving lights, signature tail lamps with a split for definition, and a Tromso Black colored grille.
The Ford EcoSport’s ergonomic design comes with easily accessible paddle shift gears, rich leather seats with a sporty orange accent, black inner door handles, a steering wheel with silver insert and alloy pedals. In contrast, the Tata Nexon comes with an array of features screaming luxury and comfort, whether it be its three-toned interiors and luxurious upholstery or its accommodating holders for various needs such holding a coffee or an umbrella and its front armrest & sliding tambour door.
The Ford EcoSport comes equipped with a touch and voice-activated 8-inch Sync 3 infotainment system for all your entertainment and information needs. Furthermore, this SUV comes fully equipped with Four speakers, audio control on the steering wheel and two front tweeters. Furthermore, Ford has outdone themselves by facilitating easy access to the car without using the key (the key fob just needs to be in your pocket). In contrast to the Ford EcoSport, the Tata Nexon is not far behind. In terms of tech, this SUV comes fully equipped with a 6.5-inch touch activated Harman infotainment system with eight speakers. Furthermore, the SUV has the controls for the audio, phone and voice systems mounted on the steering wheel.
The Ford EcoSport & the Tata Nexon are SUV designed for Indian roads. The only deciding factor that one may consider is the driving comfort, use and fuel efficiency. If style alone is the deciding factor, the Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport are fair game. However, if the price is the deciding factor, then Tata Nexon worth ₹ 9.2 lakhs is one’s best bet.
