According to WHO, more than 1.35 million people face traffic crash and lose their lives every year globally. Many other reports state that though the number of accidents is declining, the total number of fatalities is on the rise. Thankfully, the majority of cars being sold in our country these days obtain a safety score from Global NCAP, prioritising public health and safety. Among the many cars tested under its campaign in India by GNCAP, it was found out that many high sellers scored low while some not so popular ones took pole position. Here is a list of the 5 safest cars that were crash-tested by NCAP.
Tata Nexon – This is the first made in India model to score 5. The Global NCAP declared its body integrity to be ‘stable’ with excellent protection status for head and neck of riders. It successfully cleared safety occupant tests, scoring 5 for adults and 3 for children. The SUV’s dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX and seat belt reminders increase its safety and desirability. The Nexon’s successful faceoff with the side impact test elevated the crash test standard for other Indian manufacturers.
Mahindra Marazzo – This made in India MPV proudly holds the success crown with 4 stars for adults and 2 stars for children, with a promise to achieve more in future. NCAP claims the car to be ‘stable’ for its body structure integration. The dual front airbags, ISOFIX, ABS and other basic safety features ensure a safe drive, adding to its value among buyers. This model provides more than average safety to adult head and neck, minimum protection for the driver’s chest and sufficient for passenger’s chest.
Maruti Vitara Brezza – The Brezza out-powered higher models, walking away with 4 stars for adults and 2 stars for children, along with a stable body affirmation, after exceptional performance in crash test. The brand also offers same safety features in the SUV as Nexon which helped the model to achieve the result but aims to fulfil the shortcomings in child occupant protection next time.
Toyota Etios – This hatchback got 4 stars for adults and 3 stars for children owing to its elaborated safety kit onboard comprising of dual airbag, front seatbelt including pre-tensioners, ISOFIX, ABS system and headrests. GNCAP confirms that the Etios possesses body shell integrity stability which depicts its superior quality in designing to protect and deliver.
Honda Amaze – Amaze from Honda underwent the crash test by GNCAP and was partially successful. Its standard safety features like others grabbed prestigious 4-star for adult safety but though it had ISOFIX child seat mount, it just about managed a single star. With commendable body structure stability declared by NCAP and speed warning system along with seatbelt reminders recommended by India’s recent safety regulations, the brand is working on improving child safety.
