Augmented reality is fast becoming an integral part of our daily lives. Unlike virtual reality that creates a completely simulated world; augmented reality selects specific elements from the real world and integrates them to provide an immersive experience for the viewers. This not only helps in enhancing the driving experience, it is also extremely useful for automobile engineers and mechanics, who are able to virtually dismantle the car and diagnose the fault without even touching their tool-kits.


Electrical Systems

Electrical systems in automobiles have been in the running for quite some time now. However, with the recent developments in technology, electrical superchargers as well as denser and more powerful batteries have come into the picture, for e.g. the 48V Delphi systems, which allow for longer distances to be covered on a single charge. Electrical power can now be generated within the vehicle itself  using ‘Powertrain Pulses’ and other futuristic fuel cells which convert different forms of energy, as absorbed by the vehicle during its course of travel, into electrical impulses. This further allows for progressive electrical heating systems which provide optimally heated seating and steering capabilities to be implemented with relative ease.


Vehicle to Vehicle Transmission

Haven’t we all sat through movies such as ‘Cars’ and ‘Transformers’ wishing that our vehicles could somehow communicate with us as well as with each other? It certainly looks like there was someone out there paying heed to our wishes, for with the recently developed ‘Vehicle to Vehicle transmission’ technology, it is now possible for automobiles to interact with each other by sharing information such as on-road details and driving conditions. The technology could help intimate the driver of incoming obstacles or occurrences, thereby leading to a reduced chance of mishaps. With companies such as Google and Tesla making headways into the automobile industry, driverless cars have very much become a reality and the day isn’t far off when even ‘platooning’ will be a safe and viable affair.


Advancements in the automobile sector have led to the usage of technologies such as machine learning and cloud computing being used in the development of modern-day vehicles. The car is truly becoming a personal possession in today’s time and if technology keeps developing at such tremendous pace, even the long fantasized notion of owning flying cars will no longer remain a chimera.
