With changing lifestyles over the last few years, there is a growing fondness for SUVs amongst urban Indians looking for a second car, specially compact SUVs. Whereas a decade back, you had almost no choice and were forced to buy either a Mahindra or a Tata, these days almost every month you see a new model being launched. One of the latest entrants is the Maruti Vitara Brezza. Created in line with the Government of India’s Make In India initiative, Vitara Brezza is being touted as the first world-class SUV developed and designed in India entirely.
Launched in the lower price bracket, the Brezza has features you would not normally find in this segment. A dual colour scheme and a raised stance along with a sporty body, masculine front grille and chrome finish, along with alloy wheels and wide tyres make it a head turner on the road. The seats are stylish and smart and the windscreen is large enabling a great visibility. The instrument cluster is aerodynamic with ambient lighting, giving it a very premium look. The parking camera sensors and the rain sensing auto-wipers are add-ons that any discerning car-lover would die for. Besides the standard features like auto headlights, tilt steering, cruise control, push-start with smart keyless entry, etc, there is a remote control app for smart phones. Keep-cool box for your soft drinks, coat hanger, floor console with cup holders, door bottle holder and concealed seat under-trays are just a few of the other thoughtful accessories that add to the premium experience. In spite of all these features, the Brezza does not have the huge bulk that sometimes makes SUVs daunting, it has graceful lines and is much sleeker in comparison.
If you were to compare the Brezza to other SUVs in a similar or a slightly higher price range, the Brezza scores easily due to its lightweight engine and overall performance. The tyres of the Brezza are bigger to cater to the Indian roads filled with potholes, the clutch is lighter and the gear smoother. All this makes for an easy drive which is so important on our roads. The Brezza is typically all that we look for in a Maruti vehicle – brilliantly equipped, a great family car with a safe formula and of course, a wide appeal for the wide audience. Making it an excellent value for money car. And the average mileage of 24.3Km/L adds to the VFM package.
The brand value and the after-sales reputation of Maruti in India is so strong that even if a product is not the best, people lap it up. Hence, despite the fact that the Brezza is a late entrant to the market, it has been a much-anticipated one. And it definitely delivers on the anticipation. The Brezza lives up to and in fact raises the bar for not only future launches from Maruti but also for future SUV launches in this price category.
